Philosophy

Silkstone State School OSHC is proudly part of Silkstone State School, a Prep – Yr 6 school located in Ipswich.

The mission statement for Silkstone State School OSHC is... We at Silkstone OSHC, in partnership with the community, aim to create an environment of active learners. We believe all children are capable of reaching their full potential. We commit to building resilient students who strive for excellence and become responsible, respectful citizens.

Silkstone OSHC believes that each child has the right to be an active member of the community in which they live, to express their opinions and have their views considered in any decision that may affect them. We believe that the best interests of the children and their right to play as well as learn and develop in a safe and nurturing environment is the primary consideration in all decision making at the service and is visible in the actions, interactions and daily work with the children. We believe that children are active learners from birth and through rich, engaging environments and meaningful interactions, we can build a foundation for successful lifelong learning.

We acknowledge that parents and families are the child’s primary nurturers and that respectful, collaborative relationships strengthen the capacity and efforts of families and our service to support their children and promote each child’s health and wellbeing. We believe that the intrinsic worth of all children and their families, their strengths and their right to equitable access and participation in the community is clearly visible in all aspects of service delivery.

We believe that children have the right to have their individual and cultural identity recognised and respected and we value Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures as a core part of the nation’s history, present and future.

We value ongoing learning and reflective practice as a way to inform and enrich the decisions made that continuously promote positive wellbeing, learning and developmental outcomes for children.

Belief

We have a wide range of activities to enable the social processes and interactions to happen. These are:

Arts and Crafts - activities that encourage the development of such areas as painting, clay work, drawing, and various construction activities.
Sports - as we have access to the school oval, sport plays a major part in After School Care. We emphasise a non-competitive environment that is safe and fun. We have an extensive range of sports equipment that is available for use every day.
Homework Club. We offer the chance for children to do their homework every day. We have a staff member to supervise them at all times and assist when needed. We also reward effort.
Hours of operation
The hours of operation of the Centre currently are-:

Before School Care - 6.15am - 8.50am
After School Care - 3pm - 6pm
Vacation Care - 6.15am - 6pm
Fees
After School Care - $19 per day

Before School Care - $16 per day

Vacation Care - $50 per day

Pupil Free Day - $50 per day

On the days in which we go on excursions (to the movies etc), there is a surcharge to cover admission, bus hire etc. These days are capped to 60 students due to the bus size and needing to have staff with us. First 60 bookings are accepted unless they are not working families as Working families get first preference.

Casual enrolment - for irregular attendance.

Note

It is essential to ring the OSHC at least one day in advance, to let us know your child is attending. This is to prepare our Staff and resources adequately. There are times when we will have a full enrolment for a particular day. In this case, we will not be able to take any casual enrolments. If your child turns up without you contacting us, and arranging a casual enrolment, and we are full, then our only option is that we send the student to the office and they will ring you to come and collect your child. We simply cannot risk the wellbeing of our enrolled children.

If your child does not know to come to After School Care for a casual attendance, it is not possible for us to contact your child/ren directly. In emergent cases please contact the school on (07) 3437 2111 and arrange for the administration staff to inform your child/ren that they are to attend After School Care.

Other fees

For all families - enrolled at outside school hours care
Enrolment bond- $50 per family. This is refundable when all fees have been paid upon cancellation of care.

Extra care fees

For children picked up after 6pm, the extra care fee is $1 for every minute per family and will be added to the family's fees for the week as stated in the policy and procedure booklet. Staff are required to stay past 6pm (according to the clock in the OHSC room), and will be paid by SSS P&C as extra wages.
